MAKINYA
MAKINYA (Footsteps) is an electrifying interdisciplinary performance that fuses music, spoken word, dance, and storytelling to trace the journey of a people from creation to resistance, from silence to awakening. Rooted in Agĩkũyũ cosmology yet echoing across Kenya’s shared history, the show honors not only the warriors of the forest, but the women who carried the revolution in silence, mothers who hid fighters, daughters who smuggled messages, queens of courage who endured detention, torture, and loss so that freedom could breathe. Makinya asks: Whose footsteps are we following, and what future are we shaping? Through ancestral rhythm, powerful narration, and embodied memory, the performance confronts land, identity, sacrifice, and resilience, restoring women to their rightful place at the center of Kenya’s struggle for independence. This is not just a performance, it is remembrance, restoration, and a call to rise. Come witness. Come remember. Come walk the footsteps.
