Catalogue 254: When Mordecai Dex Came to Chronos

Can't get my eyes off you; don't know what I can do.

You make me comfortable……

The bard went.

That afternoon at Chronos, we’d be chewing on Vibes and Love Songs, and MORDECAI DEX was so gracious with his presence at the Catalogue 254.

To the tune we sketched.

“Do you have an inspo?” she asked softly, smiling shyly as she peeked at the sheet of paper in front of me.  

“Ah, I’m tapering…. I don’t know…” I blurted out embarrassingly.

Boy, oh boy, your ancestors must be turning in their graves. Get yourself together. Like a whiplash, the thought struck.

Hers were clouds of thoughts, drifting, today, tomorrow, and into the future past. Mine? A sputtering sketch of the sun god.

“Beautiful,” I whispered to myself.

“What?” she purred expectantly.

“Your drawing, and so are you,” I replied, chuckling as her face lit up even more.

Girl, I’m in love with your dancing style,

Moving to the rhythm and blues tonight…..

PALoMA went.

“Three years from inception to release,” Dex answered when one asked how long it took from production to publication of the song.

“And as it goes, Akiba haiozi. “

“How about GENiE iN A BoTTLE ft Njarae, what is the story?” another asked.

“That was a delight, working with Njarae. And indeed, she softened the story in the song….”

Pardon me, my dear reader, for the unusual vowel invocation in my writing the title of the songs. And I also know you’ve been wondering the same ever since the publication of the acclaimed Album.

“Nothing deeper than art,” Dex offered. “I’ve always loved painting and doodling from a young age…” And so, the inner child might be coming out to play once in a while. The keeper of hearts, that’s art.

And then one asked about ‘Kichapo,’ his first single of 2026.

“Don’t give up on yourself; life is a beautiful thing, and as long as you're breathing, the possibilities are endless,” he said, as a matter of fact.

And then there was the question about artificial Intelligence and its place.

“Well, technology is here to help us be better, find a way of harnessing its benefits without losing your spine; don’t use it as a crutch but rather as your companion in the creative process,” he put it.

His love for reggae strings undeniable; the fans were adamant to know when there shall be a pure reggae album from their beloved poet.

“It’s a journey of a thousand songs, and a reggae album is in the works. I owe it to you, my people,” he solemnly promised.

And so, as the intimate conversation came to a close, we promised to attend his show at Alchemist on the 11th of October…
