Pain2Purpose: I Have Something to Say
Under the umbrella of Pain2Purpose Foundation, a community-based initiative focused on mental wellness, healing, hope, and mentorship, The Men’s Hangout was born: a safe space where men can talk, laugh, share experiences, be vulnerable, and support one another without fear of judgment.
I’m sitting here trying to write this, but my mind keeps wandering in random directions.
I’m aging.
I’ve been looking back over the past decades, and so much has changed. I’m no longer the young man who could afford to burn time. I can say I need to do better, but empty campaigns won’t change me.
Writing this to you is like dreaming aloud. I won’t make it out of this life without grinding, and one thing I’ve seen clearly is that nobody is coming to save you, though luck has a lot to do with it.
Some mornings I want to be alone, yet I’m longing for home. Sometimes I’m lost and far from it, but I’ll find my way. Every morning I wake up and stare at the sun, my mind resolute, ready to jump at the gun again.
Someone asked me how I was doing the other day, and I said, “Fine, just busy.” They nodded and moved on. I walked home thinking how much easier it is to say “fine” than to tell the truth.
So, I’ll share a little, because that is what a bard is born to do. If you’ve been reading my pages, you know I’m not afraid to share the heartache, the pain, the loneliness, and the promise of change, if only I were courageous enough.
And I know I’m not the only one. Many men are stuck at this stage of life, singing the same sad song of regret, with their backs against the wall and nowhere to turn.
You may be wondering why this long monologue. Here’s why.
In a society where men are expected to be strong, provide, lead and keep their struggles to themselves, there are very few spaces where they can simply be themselves.
That is why, under the umbrella of Pain2Purpose Foundation, a community-based initiative focused on mental wellness, healing, hope, and mentorship, The Men’s Hangout was born: a safe space where men can talk, laugh, share experiences, be vulnerable, and support one another without fear of judgment.
